The Heavenly Father
In a world of much uncertainty, you can be certain about one thing: God knows everything about you: everything you have ever done; everything you have ever said; and every thought you have ever had. God, our Heavenly Father, is the Creator and Sustainer of the the universe. He created all humans, and cares for us and loves us deeply. When Adam and Eve, the first man and woman on earth, sinned against God in the Garden of Eden, God had to separate humanity from Himself. He did this because He is holy and cannot be associated with sin.
However, God was grieved to have to do this, and because He loves us deeply, He put in motion a plan to bring sinful humanity back to himself. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Our Heavenly Father gave His all to try and reestablish a relationship with us.
He sent His only son Jesus Christ to take our sins upon Himself and be punished for them on the cross of Calvary. Why did He do this? He did it for you and for me.
Jesus and You
A Short Introduction to Jesus Christ
Who is Jesus, really?
Nearly everyone agrees that Jesus Christ lived on the earth 2,000 years ago. The Bible says that Jesus Christ is God’s Son in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” But, still, many people still have questions about this Man who claimed to be God.
Where did Jesus come from?
Who is Jesus Christ? He is God’s only begotten son, yet He came from the throne of His Father to the womb of a woman. He became Son of Man that we might become sons of God.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of a virgin. He lived in poverty, and was unknown outside of Nazareth. He had neither wealth nor influence.
He laid aside His purple robe for a peasant’s gown. He was rich, yet for our sakes He became poor. He slept in another’s stable; He rode another’s donkey; He was buried in another’s grave.
What did Jesus do on earth?
Who is Jesus Christ? History has never known such as He. In infancy, He startled a king. As a boy, He stunned the theologians with His knowledge and wisdom, for His knowledge was directly from God.
In manhood, He ruled the elements and quieted the raging sea. He healed without medicine, and fed thousands from a boy’s lunch. Even demons obeyed Him and He gave back life to those who were dead.
Yet He suffered and sustained in body and soul the anger of God against the sin of the whole human race. He was despised and rejected of men. Though He was innocent, He was condemned by a civil judge and sentenced to death on a cross.
How did Jesus’ life impact the world?
By His suffering and death, He paid completely for the sins of all who believe in Him. He set us free from the certain judgment and eternal condemnation of God that was to fall on all of us.
Some have given their lives for others, and great men have come and gone, yet Jesus Christ lives on. Herod could not kill Him. Satan could not stop him. Death could not destroy Him. The grave could not hold Him. Having fully satisfied God’s perfect justice, He conquered death and rose on the third day as He said He would.
What will you do about Jesus?
Nearly 2,000 years ago, God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to the earth to suffer and die for the sins of humanity. If God hadn’t done this, we would all have to be punished for our own sins. The punishment for sin–even just one sin–is death. The Bible states in Romans 6:23 that “the wages of sin is death…”
Because Jesus Christ suffered and died for your sins and for mine, He now offers each and every one of us a free gift of eternal life. God wants us to accept this free gift, so that when we die, we can leave this earth to go and live in Heaven with Him forever. John 3:17-18 says, “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
If you are willing to trust Christ as your Saviour and receive Jesus Christ’s free gift of eternal life, please pray with me the following prayer:
Heavenly Father, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have sinned against you. For Jesus Christ’s sake, please forgive me of all of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died, was buried, and rose again for me. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart, save my soul, change my life, and fill me with your Holy Spirit today and forever. Amen.
